Music: Lil Wayne Basketball Ticket Controversy

An Oklahoma City Thunder spokesman says rapper Lil Wayne’s assertion that he feels unwelcome to attend Thunder games on the basis of race is ”ridiculous.”

“Not even worth commenting on,” said Dan Mahoney, Thunder vice president for communications and community relations, of Lil Wayne’s comments to the Associated Press following a ticket dispute with the team.

The Grammy Award-winning musician said he was denied a late request for courtside tickets to Game 3 of the Western Conference finals here. The team said he was welcome to attend.

“We’d love to have him at a game, but like anyone else, he needs a ticket,” Mahoney said Thursday.

The rapper, who often attends Miami Heat games, said he was offered tickets to a future game by Thunder players James Harden and Kevin Durant, but he wouldn’t attend.

Said Durant on Friday morning, “We need people like that.”

Lil Wayne addressed the issue Friday night.

“It’s the players stepping up but of course the players aren’t white,” he said. “I don’t want to be sitting there on behalf of you and I’m sitting next to a (person) that’s like ‘I don’t want this (guy) sitting next to me.’

“(Forget) you … I’m in Forbes,” he said, laughing.

Lil Wayne said an associate of his was denied a request for special parking and security. The team said the conversation never got that far when the rapper was told that four courtside seats were not available.

The Thunder have sold out every home game during this season.

“We just didn’t have the seats available,” Mahoney said. “Its that simple: supply and demand.

“We offered him other locations and probably could have accommodated him. We’ve had other celebrities courtside when it was available. In this case, for a playoff game, there were none available.”

Thunder guard James Harden scoffed when asked if he’s ever felt unwelcome in Oklahoma City because he is black.

“Not even close,” he said.

Said point guard Russell Westbrook of Lil Wayne, “He’s always welcome.”

Detroit Lions Wide Receiver Titus Young has issued a statement following an incident where he reportedly sucker-punched teammate Louis Delmas at a voluntary workout.

Young has been absent from the team’s facility in Allen Park since the incident occurred.

Read Titus Young’s statement below:

My recent actions have not always been up to the standards the Lions expect or the standards that I expect from myself. I am truly sorry for those times when I didn’t meet those standards.

“My absence from the practice facility and the OTAs last week was necessary for both myself and the team.

“The time away from the team afforded me the opportunity to reflect and come to the realization that by putting those incidents behind me I will be able to focus on becoming the best teammate and player that I can be.”

Sports News: Aztec’s Player Appears to Give Referee the Middle Finger

By: George Harvey

Down 11, and entering into the halftime break, San Diego State player and Mountain West Conference (MWC) Player of the Year, Jamaal Franklin appeared to give a referee the middle finger.

The officials had whistled Franklin for a foul, and TV cameras caught him giving the one finger salute.

After the game, in which San Diego State fell to the Nevada-Las Vegas Lobos 68-59, to give UNLV the conference championship and an automatic place in March Madness; Franklin denied the report.

Franklin said “No, not at all” – in reference to his alleged salute to the game officials.

Aztec’s assistant coach Tony Bland, who tried calming Franklin down after the foul, said he did not see the gesture.

The Aztec’s were pursuing their third straight conference championship.

Neither San Diego State or the Mountain West Conference has released a statement regarding the alleged incident.

Major newspapers online that published a piece about the article would not include the picture, even though they have in past instances with various players.

After, scrolling through numerous links on Google – a screen shot was recovered from a San Diego State message board called AztecMesa.com.

ESPN punishes two in racial slurs about Lin

By: George Harvey
Sources: Reuters

ESPN said Sunday it fired one employee and suspended another over an anti-Asian slur that appeared with a story on its website about the New York Knicks‘ Jeremy Lin.
The headline — “Chink in the Armor” — accompanied an online analysis that blamed Lin, a Chinese American, for the Knicks’ surprising 89-85 loss to the New Orleans Hornets at a sold-out Madison Square Garden on Friday.

The loss ended the Knicks’ seven-game winning streak. In a statement on Saturday, ESPN called the headline, which was up on the mobile website for about 35 minutes early Saturday morning, “offensive” and “inappropriate.”

In an updated statement issued on Sunday, ESPN said the employee responsible for the headline had been dismissed and the ESPN anchor involved had been suspended for 30 days.

The anchor appeared on shows that aired on ESPNEWS, a separate channel from ESPN and ESPN2.

ESPN also said a radio commentator who made a similar offensive reference towards Lin on Friday on ESPN Radio New York is not an ESPN employee.

ESPN apologized again to Lin, writing that “his accomplishments are a source of great pride to the
Asian-American community.”

Lin, who contributed to the Knicks’ loss to the Hornets by committing nine turnovers, is a 23-year-old Harvard graduate whose on-court heroics have made him a sports sensation and media darling.

His game performance on Friday was his first defeat as a Knicks starter.

Whoa. Wait What? Lebron wants to kick fan’s butt?

By: George Harvey

Before the Miami Heat took down the Atlanta Hawks last night, to start there back-to-back-to-back road game series, they took a quick trip to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Wizards. That’s where all hell almost broke lose.

According to NBC Washington’s sports writer Sarah Kogod, Wizards fan took some shots at Lebron “King James” James during the fourth quarter of the Heat-Wizards game on Friday night.

Kogod reports that fan Bob Moore yelled stuff about Delonte West and Lebron’s mom during the final quarter, which of course upset King James.

Kogod tweeted the following about the altercation:

LeBron was waiting alone in the backcourt when fan Bob Moore made a comment to LeBron about Delonte West and LeBron’s mom…

…Accrding to Moore, LeBron said “The only reason you talk s**t is because you know I can’t come off the court right now and beat your ass”…

…Also according to Moore, LeBron continued “But if I had a free pass, I’d kick your ass right now.”…

…Moore replied “I’m right here baby. Let’s go” before security stepped in

Whats your thoughts on how Lebron handled the situation?

Personally I think he handled it pretty darn good. As long as he didn’t get in the guy’s face about it after the game outside the locker room or in the parking lot – props to King James.
